The Chainsmokers – Closer Ft Halsey

As the summer draws to a close, so does a season of eclectic, high-energy music encapsulated by a prolific pop music scene. Just because the summer is ending, however, doesn’t mean those songs should fall off your playlist. One track in particular, ‘Closer’ by The Chainsmokers, is worth keeping in one’s rotation. The dynamic track was one of the most infectious releases of the summer.
The Chainsmokers are an American DJ duo that consists of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall. For this single, they collaborated with Ashley Frangipane, better known as Halsey , an electropop vocalist that has exploded into the music industry over the last year. Her vocal performance is complemented by Taggart’s, who provides the male vocals for the tune. ‘Closer’ was released on July 29 and has already gone twice platinum in the United States.
On release day, The Chainsmokers also released a lyric video for the single. Since its debut, that video has accumulated over three hundred million views. The love for ‘Closer’ extends to some critics as well, with Billboard citing the song as “an instant classic.” The song has hit number one in over a dozen markets as well, including the United States Billboard charts and the official United Kingdom charts.
On August 28, Halsey and Taggart united on stage at the MTV Music Awards to significant fanfare to perform ‘Closer.’ The Chainsmokers have officially released four remixes of the track, too, but throughout the independent music community the song has also quickly become a favorite for remixing.
This week ‘Closer’ enters its sixth week at the top of the Hot 100. It was also announced this week that Halsey will claim one of the highly coveted musical entertainment slots at this year’s Nobel Peace Prize Awards on December 11.
